It’s that time of year again where the kids have been back to school for a while now and all the viruses, bugs, and germs are spreading like wildfire!  For the last year, my daughter has been prone to pinkeye (conjunctivitis).  It seems that if someone even says the word “pinkeye,” she would get it.  I think it has to do with her compromised immune system due to her being a type 1 diabetic.  Before she was diagnosed with diabetes, she never had pinkeye.  Now, in the last year since her diagnosis, I can’t even count how many times she’s had it. So, lo and behold, guess who came home from school the other day with pinkeye?  Yep, you guessed it!

I had recently been to an essential oils class a few weeks before this where the presenter had mentioned a recipe for an eye spritz that she had used successfully to get rid of pinkeye with her children.  She said to take a small spray bottle and fill it with 1 oz of water and 1-2 drops of Young Living Lavender oil.  I also looked up pinkeye and conjunctivitis on www.Oil-Testimonials.com and found that people were having great results using several Young Living oils.  We chose to use Lavender and Frankincense.

Here’s the real quick fix of what we did:

Three times a day I would spritz two squirts of the Lavender oil and water mixture into her eye.  After that, I would alternate each application using Young Living Lavender and Frankincense oil and rub it around her eye from the bridge of her nose, over her eyebrow, and over her cheekbone. In about 10 minutes, her eye looked perfectly normal. No redness or swelling and amazingly, no goop! We continued this for three days until no signs of conjunctivitis remained.

*IMPORTANT:  Never put essential oils directly in the eyes! Be careful when applying oils near the eyes. Be sure to have some V-6 Mixing Oil handy for additional dilution if irritation occurs. Never use water to wash off an oil that irritates! Use either V-6 Mixing Oil or vegetable oil instead of water to remove oil from the eye.
